Doug has more than 37 years’ experience representing the entertainment and media industries, including individuals and multinational companies in motion picture, publishing, advertising, marketing, promotions, unfair competition, intellectual property, and e-commerce matters.
Doug serves as legal adviser to several worldwide trade organizations and is General Counsel to the Association of National Advertisers, the Advertising Research Foundation, and the Advertising Council. He is pro bono legal counsel to the Advertising Self-Regulatory Council.
He is the chief negotiator for the United States advertising industry in labor relations and collective bargaining opposite the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television & Radio Artists and the American Federation of Musicians for the collective bargaining agreements covering performers in television, radio, and new media commercials.
Doug is the author of Please Be AdVised – The Legal Reference Guide for the Advertising Executive, now in its 6th edition, Presidential Intentions, a fictional novel about the first woman candidate for President of the United States, and a series books on fatherly advice to his children, 101 Things I Want to Say to My Daughter, Andrea, on Beginning Her Career, 101 Things I Want to Say to My Daughter, Meghan, on Beginning College, and 101 Things I Want to Say to My Son, Joshua, on Graduating College. He is the founder of Party of We at www.partyofwe.org, a website dedicated to the power of the Internet.
Doug received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Rhode Island and has three law degrees – a J.D. from the Franklin Pierce Law Center, a Master of Laws from New York University, and an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of New Hampshire, where he is Adjunct Faculty and former Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Doug is listed among the leading global specialists in advertising law in Chambers and the Legal 500 (2007 – 2013), selected for inclusion in the 2007 – 2013 editions of The Best Lawyers in America in the specialty of advertising law and was their Lawyer of the Year in 2013 for advertising law; and in the 2007 – 2013 editions of Super Lawyers.
